Secure communication between the switch and the operating mechanism
TE.IS. is a device that enables communication between two specialized fields: T.E. (Electric Traction) and I.S. (Signaling Systems).
The versatile key utilization system (1 free 1, 1 free 2, 1 free 3, etc.) ensures the safe entry of an electric train into a railway yard.

Many artisanal versions, but none on the market!
The primary requirement is to create a safe path for electric rolling stock entering a railway siding. Private sidings are often attached to railway yards, receiving and dispatching goods using carriers that access their depots directly from the station.
For safety reasons, these sidings cannot have their receiving and delivery tracks permanently powered by the station; hence the need to guarantee the train a powered path throughout its entire shunting route.
The private area of the siding is normally fenced, and access requires opening a gate that is typically kept locked. Usually, to prevent simultaneous movements between carriers and siding operators on the track, local maneuverable FS-type derailers are in place.
TE.IS. integrates into the unambiguous communication chain between these two parties: the movement director (or DCO) and the siding operator. By means of interlocked keys, it links the key transmitter, the blade switch operating mechanism, the entrance gate, and the derailer.
Every depot has its own operational peculiarities dictated by specific procedures and needs. The versatility of TE.IS. within the workflow is extensive, providing up to 4 keys to be interlocked with one another.
Normally, the input originates from the movement director who, having received a carrier destined for the siding, must allow it onto the receiving and delivery tracks. By releasing a key via the key transmitter, the DM grants consent to power the siding’s contact line.
Re-powering proceeds using the DM’s key and the key supplied to the siding operator (who must also approve the maneuver). Once this operation is complete, TE.IS. releases one or more keys upstream of the sequence of maneuvers required for entry.
This sequence of maneuvers is vital for entry operations, but it is equally important for de-energizing the contact line, thereby ensuring that lines are powered within private environments only when necessary.
Over the years, the need to facilitate dialogue between TE.IS. specialists and rolling stock movement was the responsibility of the FS railway workshops in various departments. Unfortunately, the ingenuity of the craftsmen who created the precursors to TE.IS. was lost or buried in railway archives.
The need to implement new siding installations gave rise to imaginative quick solutions to meet immediate demands with unsafe makeshift arrangements. TE.IS. takes pride in having engineered the construction and assembly process with the two-key winch RFI category 794/048 drawing E64267.
Today, using the TE.IS. 2022 Edition specification, it is possible not only to obtain codes for any spare parts but also to modify and customize FS keys based on new inputs or subsequent plant modifications.
